Hi Jim,

We agree with you - it should be possible to type the first letter of
an item in a menu to quickly jump to that item or select it. I'm going
to go ahead and make that change, and you should see it in a future
version of Chrome.

In the meantime, I have one idea that you might want to try: use
Chrome's "Omnibox" (the location bar) to autocomplete bookmarks.

For example, press either Ctrl+L or Alt+D to focus the location bar,
then type the first few characters of the name of your bookmark. The
list of all possible matches will be displayed below - bookmark
matches are usually immediately below search suggestions. You can use
down arrow or Tab to select the right one, or Page Down to quickly
jump to the last item in the list - then Enter to open it.

Over time, Chrome learns your favorites - so bookmarks you use more
frequently will show up above bookmarks you rarely use.

I hope that helps! Good luck.

- Dominic

Jim,

A new version of Chrome is released approximately every six weeks. The
current stable version is 21, and this fix will go into Chrome 23,
which you can expect in less than 12 weeks from now. You don't need to
do anything to upgrade, Chrome will update you automatically.

If you want, you can also test a beta or development version of
Chrome. This gives you the option to try new features early, but it
may also mean that things are a little less stable sometimes, because
we use those versions to iron out problems. For more information:

Hello Dominic,

Just downloaded the beta version of release 23 and, as promised, the menu's work with first letter navigation! Although it functions a little differently and still might need some tweaks - it was great to see that feedback really does work :)

And perhaps my comments are premature, as it is very possible this has already been addressed (and not released)... but, here is what i am experiencing...

If you have any bookmarks that start with the letter "B", it doesn't rotate through the "B's"... it automatically assumes you want to "bookmark this page" and opens up the bookmark manager tab.  Same with pressing the letter "S".  I've got Sports Illustrated bokmarked, but when i press "S", it simply shows the bookmark bar... you get the idea :)

Thanks again for the terrific work!  I'm one step closer to being a full-time chrome user.

Thanks,

Jim
