Hi CrUX users,

This is your monthly announcement that the latest dataset has been published to BigQuery.

The 202102 (February 2021) dataset is now available and it covers 8,264,371 origins. Here's a look at origins' Core Web Vitals performance this month:
  • 47.99% of origins had good LCP
  • 89.46% of origins had good FID
  • 45.99% of origins had good CLS
  • 21.98% of origins had good LCP, FID, and CLS
This dataset includes the experimental Rank Magnitude metric, which distinguishes the popularity of origins by orders of magnitude: The top 1k origins, top 10k, top 100k, top 1M, ... Learn more about rank magnitude here.

If you have any questions about CrUX, feel free to reach out to us on any of these channels:
Cheers,
Johannes.

Awesome to see that the rank magnitude was added! This opens up lots of exciting analysis opportunities.

Are you able to share any details about what the rank magnitude is based on?   Ie, is it based on sessions, pages, or something else?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi All

Google documentation at https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2021/03/crux-rank-magnitude  suggests that a faster user experience on the web is correlated with being more popular. The page provides an example of Fast FCP times across all device types and countries. The more popular the rank category, the higher the percentage of sites with fast FCP times.

However, I dug a bit deeper and if you run queries to retrieve data on all Core Web Vitals metric targets + FCP, you get very different outcomes depending on market and device type.

For example, I used the query below to extract data on phones users in GB.

SELECT

  SUM(lcp.density)/count(distinct origin)

FROM

  `chrome-ux-report.all.202102`,

  UNNEST(largest_contentful_paint.histogram.bin) AS lcp

WHERE

  lcp.start < 2500 AND experimental.popularity.rank = 1000

The results for GB compared with All Country data is very different.

Some developed countries indeed rank lower than the global average. I guess that modern web apps are more complex and take longer to load (LCP) and have longer sessions (CLS)
