Hi, I believe it should return 'available' before you can create an instance. Is your  Optimization Guide On Device Model up to date in chrome://components/
?

Yep, its showing as up to date

Optimization Guide On Device Model - Version: 2025.8.8.1141
Status - Up-to-date

wait, so instead of downloadable, was it supposed to show as available?

Not necessarily, I think. Out of my experience with only the LanguageModel, the .create() method triggered the download and I went from 'downloadable' to 'available'.

I did this again in Chrome Canary for reproduction reasons and that time I forgot to update the component. Before updating it I was on 'downloadable'. For me the update triggered the download and after that I went to 'available'. This is why I asked earlier.

And, please take sentences with 'think' and 'believe' with two grains of salt :)
I'm only trying to help until a staff member replies.

Hi Sidharth,

This crash doesn't look. Could you please file a new Chromium bug via https://new.crbug.com and also add the exact Chrome version and your hardware specs? If you paste the bug URL here, I can help triage it to the right team.

Thanks,
Tom
