Hello Chromeheads 👋

So I'm having an issue downloading Nano to use the Summarizer API.
Screenshot 2025-10-09 at 10.15.16.png
It says downloading but I don't get any progress events and also my network activity is not showing anything.
Here's my env:

Any idea what's going on? I could try and load one of my local models to use with the prompt API but this wouldn't be the point of this exercise.

Thanks for the help 🙏

Can you go to the special Chrome page `chrome://components/` and click the "Check for update" button where it says "Optimization Guide On Device Model"? It should show "downloading" next.

Sometimes, a simple force restart can resolve these "stuck" states. Before exploring more complex options, let's try what the engineer suggested, but with an additional step. Could you try closing Google Chrome completely (making sure there are no background processes left) and reopening it? After restarting, go directly to chrome://components and click "Check for update" for that component again. Do you notice any changes, or does it still appear as "Up-to-date"?

@Daniel I've tried a full reboot before reaching out, so that didn't help.
@Thomas updating from components worked! The model is available. Thank you :)

I'v got a similar experience when trying to use the Prompt API, on click on check for updates it says up to date and the version stays the same at 0.0.0.0

Can you check `chrome://flags/#summarization-api-for-gemini-nano` and `chrome://version/`, to verify that the API features are enabled (and you run a supporting chrome version).
Rebooting might also help, since flags get set on chrome execution and might not have been applied correctly (yet).

Yeah, all the necessary flags are set and my chrome version is very similar to yours -  141.0.7390.55 I will try restarting and trying again.
Thanks for this.

Under chrome://version you can also verify that the flags have been set when executing under `Command Line`.
But this might not be your issue 🤔

Hi Chromeheads,

I am not sure, why but not able to see  "Optimization Guide On Device Model" on Chrome page `chrome://components/`. Can you help me with this? I am using Chrome Canary browser version 141 on mac apple silicon.
