When I try to run await ai.writer.create(); in the console, nothing happens. I have waited for more than an hour and then tried running (await ai.assistant.capabilities()).available;  but it just gives Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'capabilities')
    at <anonymous>:1:21.
I have tried the alternate method to make optimization-guide-on-device-model Enabled instead of Enabled BypassPerfRequirement, but it is still not working. I even checked for my storage problem, but I have enough.
I don't know how to fix it and would love some help with this.

Hi Rishikesh,

The link should work when you're logged in with the account you signed up with for the early preview program. Just in case, I've pasted the message below again.

Cheers,
Tom

Dear early preview program participants,

This is a public service announcement regarding the API status page: https://developer.chrome.com/docs/ai/built-in-apis#api_status. We try our best to keep it updated, so it can become your first stop when you have trouble with an API. Below is the current status as of the time of this writing.

In particular, right now, there are known bugs with:

- The Writer API
- The Rewriter API
- The Language Detector API in extensions

Many of you have also noticed that since we updated the internal model version of Gemini Nano, it only supports the English language. This is covered in the FAQ in https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VG8HIyz361zGduWgNG7R_R8Xkv0OOJ8b5C9QKeCjU0c/edit?usp=drivesdk, reproduced below:

The latest model version of Gemini Nano has only thoroughly been tested for quality (e.g., its responses should be factually correct and well written) and security (it should not tell you dangerous things, like how to build a bomb) with English. We're working on lifting this limitation soon. There will be a flag that allows you to bypass the limitation for local testing, but it's not working reliably yet, tracked in https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/5913533/2/chrome/browser/about_flags.cc#1177

Thanks for your continued interest in our APIs!

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Rishikesh,

We've been working on an extension that provides a compatible writer API and polyfills it for browsers that don't support it. It's called AiBrow (https://github.com/axonzeta/aibrow). Would this help as a temporary workaround?

Thanks,
Thomas
