Hello Chrome AI team and community,

I have successfully used the built-in AI APIs for web applications on desktop (Prompt API, Summarizer, Translator, etc.), and now I’m interested in targeting mobile. Could you please clarify if and when those built-in AI APIs will be supported on Chrome for Android? According to the docs, the on-device model Gemini Nano is “not available on mobile devices.” Chrome for Developers+1

It would be very helpful to know whether support for Android is on the roadmap — especially for features like Prompt API, Summarizer, Translator, or others — and under what conditions (Android version, Chrome version, device requirements, etc.).

Thank you for your time and any guidance you can provide.

Best regards,
Andrés

Hi Andrés,

At the moment, most of the APIs are only available on desktop platforms.

That said, we are interested in bringing these APIs to more platforms, including Android.
  • For availability (Android version, device requirements), it will be on a per API basis. APIs like the language detector and translator are less demanding than other APIs like the Prompt API.
  • For the timing, we'll share more details when we know a bit more. Stay tuned in 2026 for updates.

Just to help us better understand the context, which markets / geographies / languages are you primarily interested in supporting?

Thanks.
