Hi all,

The AI features are suddenly missing in Chrome Canary 136.  They were available last week.

Thanks,

Thanks, Connie! I'll send a public service announcement about this now.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom

An update about this?

Today I (unfortunately) updated Chrome to version 136.0.7103.49 (arm64) and I started experiencing the same issue where the AI object is empty (even with all flags enabled), same issue also with Canary.
Is there eventually a workaround to overcome this issue?

Thanks,
Francesco

Hi Francesco,

The APIs were migrated from self.ai.something directly to self.Something (uppercase). E.g., for the Summarizer API:

Before: self.ai.summarizer.create()
Now: Summarizer.create()

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the update. I also checked the self object but Summariser (or any of the other APIs) are not present there.

What I did, since last successful demo run:

- I renewed my API tokens
- Update Chrome to v136
- freed enough disk space to ensure at least 50GB are available

Also used Canary and enabled all chrome flags there too as well, but still with no luck.

Any suggestions on how to make the API available again on my side or how to debug it?

Cheers
Francesco

Hi Tom

I retested tonight with Canary and it works (on Chrome dev still not, even if it used to with there as well).

Thanks for the API update.

Glad to hear it's working again! The transition phase from one API shape to the other has , unfortunately, been a breaking one. But we're confident the current shape will be the final one.

Cheers,
Tom

Hi Thomas,

Have https://www.npmjs.com/package/@types/dom-chromium-ai upgraded to work with the API change in Chrome Canary 136?
I am worried that the typed definition does not match with the new API.

Hi Connie,

Updating the types to the new API shape is a pending task. I'm currently completely busy with I/O preparations, but maybe @Christian Liebel has cycles? It might even be a good task to try AI with. Point it at the IDL and tell it to upgrade the existing types. If anyone wants to give this a go? I can commit to reviewing a PR.

Cheers,
Tom

The new type works for me.  Thank you Tom and Christian.

I upgraded the type to 0.0.7 and refactored one my demos last night.  You can find the live refactoring in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utEQclL5Hh8

My plan is to upgrade all the demos this weekend and try the new multimodel in Prompt API.
