Hello,
Does anyone know when Chrome extension AI APIs will be available in Chrome, not just in the Canary browser?
I develop an extension and i would like to make a business plan.
Thank You!
Piroska

Great question.  I'm in the same boat.

Hi,

Interesting, did you manage to do a run-through of the Chrome extensions you built on a regular Chrome browser? Because I did try it there, not just on Canary and Chrome for Developers, and it ran seamlessly.

Hi folks,

See this API status table for the up-to-date information.

The following APIs are already launched for Chrome extensions since Chrome 138 (Stable is on version 143 so all of these are available for all your users on Chrome):
  • Translator API
  • Language Detector API
  • Summarizer API
  • Prompt API (without multimodal capabilities though)
I hope this helps.

Hi Piroska,

As per the API status table, the Summarizer, Translator, Language Detector, and the Prompt API (for Chrome extensions only) have launched in Chrome 138 and can be used in regular Chrome.

Cheers,
Tom

Thank you, Tom.
How can we pay for the API tokens?
Where can a user of my Chrome extension buy the AI Prompt API tokens?
Best regards,
Piroska

Hi Piroska,

I think there's some misunderstanding. Built-in AI APIs don't require API tokens. The inference runs on the users' devices, not in the cloud.

Cheers,
Tom
