Hello,

This is a quick PSA that the Form Controls Refresh feature (chrome://flags/#form-controls-refresh) has been enabled by default in Chromium 81 for Windows, ChromeOS, and Linux, as of late last week. Mac and Android support will hopefully be coming soon. With this feature enabled, form controls have a new, refreshed appearance, with better accessibility and touch support. This has been an ongoing collaboration between Microsoft and Google, and if you'd like additional information, you can see the recent talk at CDS or the MS blog post. You can also see a few examples of the changes below, but if you'd like to take a closer look at the controls, this page gives an example of all of the elements we changed.

All of the changes should be web-compatible, as the in-page control dimensions have not been changed. However, if this change causes any downstream issues, please let me know.

Thanks,
Mason

It is impossible to disable this horrible feature, if I go to flags and set it to disabled and relaunch the browser I still get the awful black lines when clicking in any input.

You can still use CSS to control the color/style of the focus ring. For example:

<style>
  *:focus-visible {outline-color: hotpink;}
</style>

Well, this must be a joke? Why would you turn on something that will make most of the world add this style in their websites? I don't know who's idea was to put this horrible thing by default and give no control to users to stop it but it was bad decision.
The new look is alright but the black outline is just awful and annoying.
