Summary
Deprecate and remove the “uuid-in-package” navigation support with Web Bundles, which is an extension to Subresource loading with Web Bundles. This extension allows a bundle to include “uuid-in-package:” URL resources, which will be used to create an opaque origin iframe.
Subresource Loading with Web Bundles is still supported; only the extension part is being removed.
Motivation
The usage of this extension feature is very low. The Chrome team has contacted the primary customer, Google Ads team, and confirmed they have already stopped using it. With no other customers, there is no reason to keep this feature in Chrome.
Interoperability and Compatibility Risk
This is a Chrome/Edge only feature. There is no interoperability risk.
Firefox: Not supported
Safari: Not supported
