Specification

None

Summary

Adds subgroup functionality to WebGPU. Subgroup operations perform SIMT operations to provide efficient communication and data sharing among groups of invocations. These operations can be used to accelerate applications by reducing memory overheads incurred by inter-invocation communication.

WebView application risks

Does this intent deprecate or change behavior of existing APIs, such that it has potentially high risk for Android WebView-based applications?

None

Goals for experimentation

We wish to more broadly test portability, performance, and reach beyond our accessible test devices. We have partners that could leverage these features in existing products to provide feedback. For example, Mediapipe would be able to leverage this feature easily.

We also wish to gather feedback to help shape the API and answer the following questions:
* Which parts are essential?
* What additions would make a meaningful impact?
* Can we mitigate non-portable behaviours for common usages?

Ongoing technical constraints

None

Debuggability

None

Will this feature be supported on all six Blink platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS, Android, and Android WebView)?

No

Is this feature fully tested by web-platform-tests?

No

Non-finch justification

None

Requires code in //chrome?

False

Please kick-off the chrome status reviews on Privacy, Security and Debuggability before turning on the experiment.
