Spec

https://drafts.csswg.org/css-images-4/#conic-gradients

Summary

Implement conic gradients from CSS Image Values Level 4.

Motivation

Conic gradients are useful for a number of effects on the Web that cannot be emulated in any other way — see https://leaverou.github.io/conic-gradient/.

Interoperability and Compatibility Risk

Interoperability risk: medium-low.  The feature is not yet implemented in other browsers, but the API surface is small.

Edge: No signals (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/platform/status/conicgradients/)

Firefox: No signals (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1175958)

Safari: No signals (https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=146113)

Web developers: Positive

Compatibility risk: low.

Ongoing technical constraints

None.

Will this feature be supported on all six Blink platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and Android WebView)?

Yes.

OWP launch tracking bug

None yet, will open for shipping.

http://crbug.com/502970 is the feature request.

This is #39 on the top starred blink bugs list, so I'm excited to see work progress!  Thanks!

It's probably worth checking with Tab or Fantasai that the spec is stable and ready to shipped sometime soon.

The spec hasn't seen any significant review within the CSSWG
because implementer feedback at the time it was drafted was
saying, “We don't want to implement this.”

So, given this is mostly a syntactic issue and we're basing
the syntactic model off of an existing feature, it's probably
not hugely unstable... but it would be best to post a message
to www-style asking the CSSWG to actually publish a spec and
solicit feedback prior to shipping, as we don't even have an
FPWD of css-images-4. :)
