How an input kernel driver can know charger/hdmi state?

Hi Chromium-os-dev,
A partner who develops touch input devices would like to modify their kernel driver to be aware of charger state (ie, running on AC vs battery) and HDMI state (ie, connected to external display or not). What is the proper mechanism for this?

For AC they could probably use power_supply_reg_notifier() to monitor transitions between battery/AC.
