HTMLCanvasElement.captureStream on hidden tab

I am recording a canvas, using HTMLCanvasElement.captureStream, and I see that the canvas seems to not be updating if I change tab (and making my tab containing the canvas completely hidden).

Is this an intended behaviour of the canvas? If so, is there a way for me to force the canvas to keep updating?
