note: you need Chrome M65 or newer which has just been released to the beta channel.  if you're running an older version, it might not show up in searches on the CWS, and if you do find it, it'll be listed as incompatible with your system.

i've now published a version of Secure Shell built as an extension to the CWS.  this allows Secure Shell to once again be used on non-Chrome OS platforms such as Linux, macOS, and Windows.

there are both stable & dev versions of the extension just like there are with the app.  that means you could have all 4 installed simultaneously (if you really wanted).

if you prefer the extension style over the app style, it runs just fine on Chrome OS too.  although it won't get you access to things like SFTP (see the FAQ).

this is the initial release so i expect there to be some bugs, but feel free to bang on it and let us know how it goes.

for more details, please consult the FAQ.
here is the link to the stable version and the dev version, although they are both currently the same at 0.8.43.  if the dev link gives you an error, please consult the FAQ.

a technical note: this is still built on NaCl and not WebAssembly.  migration here is still ongoing, but Chrome still supports NaCl with apps & extensions on all platforms just fine.

Mike,

Your link to the stable version (https://goo.gl/9NCCZQ), gives me a 403 access forbidden error page.  I am still on the stable version of Chrome, so perhaps this is expected.

Are there any functionality differences between the extension and app versions?  Specifically, can you open the extension in a separate window similar to the app version?

I think the problem is that when I click the shortlink to the stable extension, it takes me to the dev extension. And I think the dev extension 403s for people who aren't subscribed to this list.

Here is a full link to the dev extension
And the stable extension

The dev extension link works just fine for me.  The stable extension short link: https://goo.gl/9NCCZQ takes me to this page:
which returns a 403 error.

I read through more of the FAQ page, and it does answer all of my functionality questions.
