I want to install chrome my extension through msi installer, I have added HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Google\Chrome\Extensions\<MY_EXT_ID> and under  this added key string update_url: https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx (as described here). On restarting chrome, my extension is not listed on the extension page. I am using windows 7 64-bit, my extension is hosted on the webstore. On the other hand, if I copy the extension to local machine add path value instead of update_url in the registry, chrome install the extension. But as it is said extensions not hosted on web store will be disabled in future, so I can't use that approach. Guide me please what I am missing.

Thank you

This is only partially related:
1. I understand you wish to install an extension from the CWS using the registry - something I'm also interested in. Would this require the user to reboot chrome (if it was indeed running when the registry key was set)?
2. Also, have you tried enabling chrome logs? it might offer clues..(see here - http://www.chromium.org/for-testers/enable-logging )
