how to set badge text for pageActions?

I followed the google suggestion that if my extension only works for a specific URLs I should go with PageActions instead of BrowserAction but I found out there is no setBadText for PageActions....Why ?

and I need to set a text next to the icon. how can I fix this problem?

can I switch back to browser action but only make it get activated (turn from gray to colorful) when on the matching sites?
