Hi,

I haven't been able to find a definitive answer for this question: does kiosk mode not work if you're running an extension that has a background task?

Our deployment platform is Windows7 + Chrome 53.x, and we depend on kiosk mode (this is an application that runs on touchscreen terminals).  I developed an extension as part of our solution, and when the extension is installed, launching chrome with

chrome.exe --kiosk

..no longer works.  If I disable or remove the extension, it does work.  There are other extensions installed (e.g. Google Docs extensions), so the only thing I can guess is that having a background task in the extension breaks kiosk mode.

If this is the case, can someone tell me if there's a possible workaround?  I'm considering converting the background task to an event page https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/event_pages as a workaround, but don't know if that would also break kiosk mode.  There are specific reasons why I think it should be a background task, but if kiosk mode works with event pages, it may be a possible solution for us.

Thanks in advance,
Davis

To me, this sounds like a bug or a weird limitation.

You can search crbug.com for an existing issue and star it. If you cannot find one, file a new issue using the "New issue" link on the same page.
Please, do not add a "+1" or "Me too" or "Confirmed" (or similar) comment. It just wastes the time of Chrome engineers and sends unnecessary e-mails to all of the people who starred the issue.

You can reply with a link to the found or created issue and might get triaged (and fixed) faster.

Thank you.

Thanks -- I had searched in crbug before and did not find anything relevant, thought I'd pose a quick question here before I filed a new issue.

Happy to answer any questions here or there.  Thanks for taking a look!
