Verizon FiOS app

I'm new here so I apologize in advance if I am asking stupid questions.  

I just bought an Asus R13 (upgrading from my 300MA).  I bought new machine for lots of reasons, but a big one was for Android app support.  I was hoping to gain the ability to use the android Fios app to use the laptop to watch tv in the house.  Fios doesn't offer a native chromebook app, which is why I am looking to use this one.  The android app works, but the app is using my outside IP address - not the internal 192.168.xxx.xxx number.  Does anybody know if the Android app architecture does this naively or is this an issue that is specific to this app?
