How many service workers can a browser handle simultaneously ?

assuming all sites in the future use SWs, then will a mobile device browser be able to handle all the background activity running within a single browser app ?

The idea is to be able to handle this future of SW everywhere, yes. SW was designed to be lightweight and short-lived. A SW starts up on demand and can be stopped when it's no longer needed (i.e., no longer handling an event).
