Hi Chrome Team,

Available Chrome API’s:
Chrome API’s chrome.fileBrowserHandler & chrome.fileSystemProvider are supported in ChromeOS only.

Need Clarification:
Do you have any plan to support the Chrome API’s chrome.fileBrowserHandler  & chrome.fileSystemProvider for any other operating system (like Windows, MAC).

Please reply.

Thanks in Advance,
Shashikiran

Hi Shashikiran,

We're currently working on supporting the File Handling API in Manifest V3, which will be a replacement for chrome.fileBrowserHandler: https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/whatsnew/#the-file-handling-api-comes-to-chromeos. My understanding is that we're only working on support for ChromeOS at the moment.

The chrome.fileSystemProvider API continues to be supported across Manifest V2 and Manifest V3 but I also don't think there are any plans to make it available on more platforms at the moment.

Hope that helps,
