Install count hidden on Chrome Web Store after a surge in installs

Hello,

I'm the developer of Frost New Tab, first released in 2022. It had been hovering around 50-70 installations with almost no promotion on my part. A couple of weeks ago, I gave it an update, with a better logo and such and finally started doing some promo on Reddit, where it was well received.

To my surprise, within a week it crossed 1000 "users" in the developer dashboard. However, the installation count which used to be publicly visible on the extension listing page, is now hidden with no explanation.

My guess is that the sudden increase in downloads after years made the system suspicious. But I couldn't find any information about this being a thing, and I'm uncertain when the install count will be made visible again. I've waited for two days.

Hence, I'm creating this post to seek clarity. Would be great to know when it will be resolved.

It updates every few days for the average for a week. It's not an hourly or daily sensitive metric. You should totally wait at least a week to observe. This is not an issue, rather a feature, I'd say. :)

Unfortunately there isn't much I can share about why we do or don't share user counts.

However, I do hope it will return for you in the future!

Hi! The count did return back, fairly quickly!

It did come down to about 150 users now, but that sounds more in line with reality and I'm less surprised by it. Now I look forward to sharing the extension to more people who may find it useful!
