I've been using Patreon for several years  to charge users monthly/yearly.

But I'm quite unhappy with the platform:
- high fees
- bad Patreon page UI/UX
- unnecessary complicated payment flow that requires extra account
- bugs in their API!

There are only two benefits why I'm still using Patreon:
- they are taking care of the country specific taxes
- I can post a nice looking newsletter

Is there some better way?
I've heard about "Lemon Squeezy" (owned by Stripe?), but I could also find a lot of bad reviews online, and for example on the Trustpilot they have score only 1.5, which is still better than Patreon with 1.3.

I have a feeling these days it should be possible to charge users directly with Stripe, I just need to connect it with some "taxes" module that will compute and apply correct VAT for the specific user, right?

Anyone has some experience with this?

You can consider buymeacoffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/, generally I've found it easier and less cumbersome than Patreon.

Thanks,

I've used that for donations a while ago, but then I moved to ko-fi.com since they didn't charged any fees.
But these services are good only for donations. I don't think you can legally sell a service/product through these since they won't handle country specific VAT for you.

I made ExtensionPay so I'm biased, but I also use it in my own extensions.
  • Really easy to set up and use (often takes under an hour)
  • Charge one-time, monthly, yearly, or any combination of plans
  • Log in / multiple device support
  • Free trials
  • Open source JS library
  • Flexible API means you can implement the payment model that makes sense to you
  • Free to use, but a small fee is taken whenever a payment is made
Devs have made over $500k with it now and growing. It also has 632 stars on Github.

Hello Glen,

I'm based in Ukraine, and unfortunately, Stripe doesn't allow registration here. PayPal is generally the most accessible payment option for us.

Could you please tell me what monetization options are available through ExtensionPay for users in Ukraine, considering the limitations with Stripe and the prevalence of PayPal?
