Hello ChromiumOS developers,

I am a student preparing for GSoC 2026 and I am interested in contributing to
ChromiumOS, particularly in the power and thermal / init subsystem.

I have set up the ChromiumOS build environment, successfully built the
amd64-generic board, and run the image in a VM.

I would appreciate guidance on:

  1. Beginner-friendly packages or issues suitable for a first contribution

  2. The preferred way to engage with mentors while preparing for GSoC

Thank you for your time and guidance.

Best regards,
Shrey

Power and thermals are not something that would be easy to contribute to because they depend heavily on hardware. In the past, we've tried to keep GSoC projects scoped to hardware-free setups (for logistics). powerd might have some interesting tech debt worth tackling, but that depends on whether there is a host with expertise available.
I don't think there is any interest in making any substantial changes in init at this time.

+Chithra Annegowda on whether there is interest for a GSoC host.
