Forgive me if this has been discussed before - I just gave a talk on Chrome AI and it came up. Imagine two years from now and the AI capabilities are all GA. I'd imagine there will be a time when a user has a model downloaded, and a new model is available. How will this be handled?

1. Will the API return downloadable instead of available as a way to 'force' people to the latest? I can see that happening, but feels problematic when...
2. Will the API return a *new* status, like upgradable, where the developer can make the choice on just going forward with the current model, forcing an update, or perhaps opening a session with the current model while another bit of code grabs the newer model.

Hello Ray,

This question is answered in https://developer.chrome.com/docs/ai/understand-built-in-model-management?hl=en#automatic_model_updates. It should essentially be transparent and not noticeable, other than of course hopefully a leap in response quality (which, truth be told, might require code changes, for example, removing previously needed corner case workarounds).

Cheers,
Tom
