wicg.github.io/display-locking (note that this talks about css subtree-visibility, but in the version we're experimenting with, it was still called rendersubtree and was an attribute)
Summary
RenderSubtree attribute (and subtree-visibility) is a feature that allows developers to hide content using this feature while keeping it searchable via things like find-in-page. It also features an automatic mode which will hide and not render content which is off-screen.
We've had positive feedback from a few adopters, who saw improvements on load time. We'd like to extend the trial until M83 due to the adjusted Chrome release cycle.

https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/d/msg/blink-dev/Bh0bSdkQlbk/7n6b50N6AwAJGoals for experimentation
We'd like to gather additional feedback from more partners. This is a short extension to allow additional tokens to be registered.
Experimental timeline
new expiration milestone: M83 (not including M83)
Any risks when the experiment finishes?
There is minimal risk. The availability of this feature can be detected, and alternatives (such as display: none) are readily available.
Reason this experiment is being extended
Due to the adjusted Chrome release cycle, we'd like to be able to register additional tokens while M81 is still running the experiment.
Ongoing technical constraints
None
Will this feature be supported on all five Blink platforms supported by Origin Trials (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android)?
Yes
