If you look on the screenshot of Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, Chromium Version 34.0.1847.116 Ubuntu 14.04 aura (260972), there is an "a" next to the settings button. What does this mean or is it an error? I installed Chromium directly from the Ubuntu repositories. Just curious...

It means that it has Aura UI (which is new hardware accelerated UI of Chrome). Its been enabled on Windows for a while.

Me too I got this little "a". How can I desactivate it?

You cannot. It will be gone once it is stable. I am not sure why your distribution enabled Aura on a stable release. It will be enabled in Google Chrome 35, not 34.
