Summary

All -internal-media-controls-text-track-list* selectors will no longer be exposed to web contents. That means that the text track selector UI will no longer be customizable in CSS.

Motivation

These selectors should never have been exposed to web contents in the first place. It was likely a mistake/oversight from the developer.

Compatibility And Interoperability Risk

The selectors have been added less than a year ago. We expect usage to be low.

Alternative implementation suggestion for web developers

Developers that want to have a customized text track selection interface should have custom controls.

Usage information from UseCounter

There is no UseCounter at the moment but one in being added. We expect usage to be very low. If usage happen to be higher than expected, we will revisit the decision.

Requesting approval to remove too?

Yes. We would like to remove the selector support in M59.

To wrap this up: the usage increased just after the deprecation started
because YouTube started to use one of the text track list selector. We
reached out to them and they dropped its usage, allowing us to remove
all these selectors in M59.
