Summary

The actual Doppler effect was removed quite a while ago, but the API remained. foolip@ added the deprecation message (with a removal by M55).

Motivation

https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/d/msg/blink-dev/-1SI1GoHYO8/6XUjRs-fdv4J

Compatibility Risk

Risk is limited. Firefox never implemented the doppler effect (I think), the actual affect has been removed for a long time so the actual API didn't do anything.

Usage information from UseCounter

The actual use counters:

Doppler factor: https://www.chromestatus.com/metrics/feature/timeline/popularity/620

setVelocity:

https://www.chromestatus.com/metrics/feature/timeline/popularity/622

speedOfSound: https://www.chromestatus.com/metrics/feature/timeline/popularity/621

These haven't done anything in a couple of years.
