Smith MathCounts Club,
On Monday, Dec 12, we held our annual School MathCounts Competition. 71 students participated...10 more than last year. The scores were very high leading us to allow 25 students to join the team (normally we keep about 15).
Many parents helped out with scoring, refreshments, and supervising the students after the contest. We got our group picture taken - I will send you a copy soon by email. The nine top students got medals or trophies to take home. Everybody got a small prize to take home for memories.
Thank you to those parents and Ms. Haber!
The MathCounts Club is over for the school year. If you enjoyed it and want to do more but didn't make the team, there is still a lot you can do. See previous emails I have sent for suggestions. I would start with exploring what
artofproblemsolving.com has. If you are a 6th or 7th grader, I hope to see you again next Fall.
The 25 students who are on the MathCounts Team will have their first practice on the first day back - Tuesday, Jan 3. After that, we will be back to our normal Monday afternoon time slot. We will be training for MathCounts, the AMC10, and the NC State Mathematics Competition. Reminder that only 10 will be able to go to MathCounts...those 10 will be finalized at the end of January.
The results for the students who made the team are attached. Contact Dr. B if you would like your individual score. The contest is kept secure until February and then I can send it home with you.
- Dr. B
