Smith Community,

On Saturday, March 5th at Carrboro HS, the Smith team narrowly missed defending last year's state championship in MathCounts.  We came in 2nd place to our longtime rival - Carnage MS of Raleigh.

This was a year that the Smith team was very deep.  All 10 Smith students qualified for the Finals, and all 10 finished in the top 40 in the entire state - an incredible accomplishment.

Smith's stars and their individual finishes:
10th - Aaron deJong
11th - Max Tao
15th - Matt Kaminsky
17th - Adrian Thananopavarn
20th - Leo deJong
21st - Adriana Kim
25th - Matias Shundi
30th - Jonathan Xu
33rd - Andrew Zhen
37th - Jack Xu

Phillips MS finished 8th in the state.

Now the Smith Math Team continues training for the NC State Math Competition events held in March and April.

If you see these students in the halls, congratulate them for their hard work and accomplishments.  Thanks for your support!
