As an occupational therapist who works closely with students with disabilities, I was deeply saddened and concerned to learn that the photographs of at least a dozen students with disabilities were omitted from the high school’s yearbook.

A yearbook is more than a collection of photographs; it is a record of a student’s educational journey, achievements, friendships, and memories. For many students and families, it becomes a cherished keepsake that is revisited for years to come.

The exclusion of these students from such an important milestone sends a troubling message, regardless of intent. Students with disabilities work hard to overcome challenges and deserve the same recognition and representation as their peers. Inclusion should extend beyond classrooms and services—it should be reflected in all aspects of school culture and traditions.

I respectfully request that the district will take meaningful action to recognize and honor the students who were left out by republishing the year book .

Every student deserves to be seen, celebrated, and remembered.

Sincerely,
Marissa Batista
