Hello Dr. Trice and BOE Members,

With the closure of Glenwood, I would like to urge the District to initiate a study to determine whether it is possible to relocate both Mandarin language programs into another school while maintaining its current walk zone.  I.e., Does an elementary school (or future Carrboro or Estes Hills) have the capacity for both Mandarin language programs plus its current walk zone students?  Given the current school district lines and the uneven capacity of schools across the district, it is likely that many students outside of the walk zones for their current schools will be shuffled amongst the schools during the redistricting process anyway.  By moving both Mandarin programs into one school while maintaining a neighborhood walk zone, the District would be able to protect the Mandarin language programs, maintain a neighborhood school community, and address the concerns around transportation costs brought up at the June 4th BOE meeting.

Thank you for your consideration.
