The Chandra X-ray Center is excited to offer a hybrid science workshop to be held August 1-3, 2023 on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the subject of High Resolution X-ray Spectroscopy.
Chandra contains two separate transmission gratings – the HETG and LETG – that have enabled high-resolution spectroscopy in the X-ray domain at high angular resolution. This science workshop will cover the observational results of – and theoretical advances attained through – the past twenty-five years of high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy.
Topics to be explored include:
AGN
Massive Stars
X-Ray Binaries and Compact Objects
Interstellar Medium
CGM and WHIM
Clusters of Galaxies
Novae and Cataclysmic Variables
Supernovae and Remnants
Laboratory Astrophysics
Transient Phenomena
In addition to results from the LETG and HETG on board Chandra, the workshop will also incorporate results from XMM-Newton’s RGS and Hitomi as well as the prospects of future missions, including XRISM and Athena.
