The Chandra X-ray Center (CXC) is pleased to announce that version 4.15.1 of CIAO ("Chandra Interactive Analysis of Observations") is now available for download from http://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/ciao/download .

This patch includes fixes for issues identified shortly after the CIAO 4.15 release in December 2023.  Changes include

  • Updates SAOImage DS9 to version 8.4.1, which fixes a problem when trying to plot from the prism window.

  • Updates to support NumPy version 1.24.  This includes changes to the pycrates module and to the srcextent tool.

Instructions for downloading CIAO 4.15.1 and for upgrading from CIAO 4.15 are provided on the download page.

Concurrently, the ciao-contrib package has also been updated to version 4.15.1.  Changes include

  • More updates to support NumPy version 1.24 in chandra_repro, merge_obs, monitor_photom, and assorted other modules.

  • color_color (new) calculates color-color (hardness ratio) values for a model with a range of parameter values.

  • combine_spectra bug fixes when setting the src_arfs parameter (exposure value and skipping the combination of background and/or RMF files)

  • convert_xspec_user_model bug fixes and initial support for compiling with udmget for FORTRAN models.

  • specextract bug fixes to recognize pixel mask filtering, ensure proper history metadata, improve robustness when handling blank sky files, and more.

  • Fixes to sherpa_contrib.profiles module issue with plotting introduced in 4.15.

For more details and a complete list see the Analysis Scripts release notes.
