Chandra Events at the 248th AAS

The Chandra Director’s Office would like to bring to your attention some Chandra and X-ray related events during the 248th meeting of the American Astronomical Society, a joint meeting with the High Energy Astrophysics and Laboratory Astrophysics Divisions. In particular, we would like to highlight a special session, Chandra: Today and Tomorrow that will take place on Wednesday, June 17. All times are PDT.

Chandra X-Ray Observatory Booth (Exhibit Hall)

We encourage you to visit the Chandra booth, where you can learn about spacecraft updates and proposal opportunities, talk to CXC experts, and browse our latest collection of materials and swag. The booth will be staffed and open whenever the exhibit hall is open, beginning the evening of June 14th. The Chandra booth is near the front of the exhibit hall, #302.

Chandra: Today and Tomorrow

Special Session

Wed, Jun 17 3:40 - 5:10 PM; Conference Center, 212

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has been delivering the high-energy universe at unparalleled angular resolution for over a quarter century. Over its lifetime, Chandra has risen to address the evolving suite of questions at the forefront of modern astrophysics, often questions that were not dreamed of before Chandra’s launch. The capabilities of Chandra remain as critical as ever, covering everything from exoplanets to Cosmic Dawn. This Special Session will present highlights of the cutting-edge science performed with Chandra observations, including the dynamic time domain universe, the frontiers of data processing and exploration, and the synergies of an X-ray flagship with the panchromatic fleet of other NASA observatories and ground-based facilities. Additionally, members of the CXC will present an update on the current status of the mission and of the Observatory, as well as provide some updates on the projected future of the mission. The Special Session will conclude with a Q&A.

Science Highlights, 3:40 - 4:25 PM

Chandra’s Dynamic Universe: 27 Years of Time Domain Science, Daniel Schwartz

Chandra’s Synergistic Universe: Joint Observatory Science with Chandra, Amruta Jaodand

Chandra's Universe of Data: Yesterday's Data, Today's Science, Melania Nynka

Mission Updates, 4:25 - 5:10 PM

Status of the Chandra Observatory, Megan Lin

Chandra's Mission Planning, Julia Zachary

The Future of the Chandra Peer Review, Rodolfo Montez Jr.

What Next? Chandra's Plans for the Future, Patrick Slane
