CHANDRA AND OTHER X-RAY RELATED EVENTS AT THE 236th AAS
The Chandra Director's Office would like to bring to your attention some Chandra and X-ray related presentations and events during the 236th virtual meeting of the American Astronomical Society. Please refer to the meeting program for the latest information or to explore other subject-specific talks.
CHANDRA EXHIBIT BOOTH
We encourage a visit to the virtual Chandra booth where you can talk with Chandra staff, learn about the Chandra Source Catalog, talk to an astro-statistician, walk among the stars, and ask any X-ray data analysis questions you may have. You can also learn about the 20 years of Chandra science and picture books and current job vacancies are listed at the booth.
Ask-an-Astro/Statistician
The Chandra Booth is hosting a rolling Ask-an-Astro/Statistician discussion table. There will be several statisticians and astrostatisticians present at designated times (when the Interactive Exhibit Halls are open) to discuss astrostatistics related issues with interested astronomers attending AAS 236. Topics covered range from the mathematical foundations of Bayesian analysis to Machine Learning.
LYNX EXHIBIT BOOTH
We encourage a visit to the virtual Lynx booth. Lynx is a revolutionary X-ray observatory that will transform our understanding of the Cosmos. It is one of the four NASA Strategic Mission concepts under consideration by the 2020 Decadal Survey. Drop by the booth and learn more about a new Great Observatory and a new epoch of discovery. Chat with two of the Lynx scientists and pick up some swag!

PRESS BRIEFING
A New Galactic Center Adventure In Virtual Reality
Christopher Russell (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile)
Tuesday, 2 June 2020, 11:15 am EDT
Many people are trying new experiences these days. By combining data from telescopes with supercomputer simulations and virtual reality (VR), a new visualization allows you to experience 500 years of cosmic evolution around the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way. This visualization, called “Galactic Center VR,” is the latest in a series from astrophysicists, and is based on data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes. This new installment features their NASA supercomputer simulations of material streaming toward the Milky Way’s four-million-solar-mass black hole known as Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). The visualization has been loaded into a VR environment as a novel method of exploring these simulations and is available for free at both the Steam and Viveport VR stores.
