Club News
• OOPS!: Last week’s newsletter listed incorrect (old) pricing for our Annual Grounds Fee option. The web page that it sent you to had the correct pricing. We apologise for any confusion. 😕
• 💗Volunteer of the Week💗 David Conran for running two Private Come & Try Classes for the club this weekend, rebuilding a new member’s compound bow so they could continue shooting, opening & closing the club on Monday(s), repairing club hire gear, clearing rubbish around the club, sorting out several issues with Archery Australia’s membership system, helping a few people become members, coaching & teaching several members new archery skills, helping with the newsletter(s), finding a suitable bow for a member to use for LARPing, Endless Dad-jokes, …; Thank’s Dodgy Dave! 👏👏
• Ekka Wednesday shoot - The club has a tradition of not letting a good public holiday go to waste. As such, we will be open All Day for the public holiday (12th August) and will be holding a special shoot, to allow archers to shoot & get records for some of the less-usual archery rounds.
See calendar for below more details. 🎡📆🏹
• Calling future (and recent) DOSs - Archery Australia finally has the equivalent of the “Club Official” course back on line. (See https://archery.org.au/officiating-courses/) If you have not done this course previously (the old one), we need all Club DOSs to do it. If you’re interested in helping out (We ALWAYS need more people who can be the DOS), consider doing this free course. 🎓
• New Opening Time - Kristy has moved her coaching group to Wednesday afternoons. As such she will be opening up the club for other members to come down and shoot. So, yay! More chances for you to do archery. Less excuses. Thanks Kristy! 💘
• Khuru time again - Our local Bhutanese community has tentatively booked our upper archery field for their traditional Khuru games on the 22nd of August. If you haven’t seen it played before, it’s totally worth the watch & a great atmosphere! 🎯
• We will be trialing teaching using sights from next Saturday for our Come & Try Classes. 🔭
• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏👏👏👏
(U14) Zafran Akhtar Halim, Oliver Parr
(Open) Jasmine Furness, Benjamin Woolf, & (60+) Stephen Zanchetta
Etiquette
If you’ve hired or used a club bow, please ensure you unstring the bow before putting it in the shed. Recurve limbs, under tension, in an unventilated shed equals a Sad Panda.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
Education is important but Archery is more importanter.
Tip of the Week
🔀 The plot twists unravel… 🔀
Check that your brace height is still the same as when you recorded it last. (You have documented it, right?) Recurve & Longbow strings have a nasty habit of changing their number of twists when you string & unstring your bow. Just a few twists can significantly change your bow’s characteristics and change where your arrows land.
Safety Tip
🏹 High Draws 🏹
For those of you who have participated in the Xmas or Easter Clout, you will know just how far arrows can go from a low poundage bow. I.e. Extremely far in some cases (cough Stacy cough). Imagine doing that with your lighter carbon arrows & higher poundage bows. Thus, you need to keep your arrow fairly level with the ground from start to finish of your draw cycle. High draws are not permitted. I.e. You may not draw a bow in such a manner that if the arrow was accidentally released it may travel beyond the safety zone. If in doubt cease immediately and ask an instructor or coach.
