Club News

Volunteer(s) of the Week: All the Worker-Bees 🐝 from this weekend’s Working Bee. Thanks to them, we have now built all the new arrows. That is well over 120 arrows nocked, pointed, and fletched. Several people learned how to do it, and several more re-learned how to do it. ;-) Today also saw Team #2 take on the new ground surface (pics) under the shade structure down at lanes 1-10. We will let it sit for several weeks to see how it holds up before proceeding with the rest.

The Longbow Spectacular has been moved a week early (14th of Feb). Brian forgot he was attending the L1 Coaching course on the previous date (21st). D’oh! 🤦

This week sees the restart of our regular OzBow, shooting comps, & the Come & Try classes.

For Sale: The club has made another personal portable target butt (pics) which is available now. It’s located near the entry door of the Titan Shed. Purchase here: https://square.link/u/eRNtiZJY or at the club. ($200)

Etiquette

Please keep your gear & possessions within your shooting lane allotment. Move it with you if & when you change lanes/targets. We commonly think that space is a limited resource only on the shooting line. It’s an issue behind the waiting line as well. If you have lots of stuff, consider putting some of it up against the containers, or against the wall under the covered area. When a lane overflows it can have a knock-on effect impacting a lot of your fellow archers.

If there is someone else’s gear in your lane, politely ask whose it is, and if they can move it. I haven’t yet met an archer who wouldn’t eagerly comply with that request.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Archery is relaxing as yoga except you get to shoot something.

Tip of the Week.

At full draw we want the archer’s body to be upright. That is, we do not want the archer to be leaning back, away from the target, as that will result in the bow arm shoulder being too high. If necessary to get this right, start with more of your weight on the foot towards the target and lean a little towards the target prior to drawing the arrow.

Safety Tip

🥊🦘 Kangaroos are wild! 🦘🥊

It’s Joey/Mating/Fighting season again at the club grounds. We need to be extra careful when approaching our fellow furry club members. We have had near misses in the past where a big male attempted to attack an adult archer when he wasn’t looking. Please remember, they are wild creatures. They can inflict serious injuries. Give them the distance, caution, & respect they deserve.

• Don’t allow children or short people to approach the kangaroos alone.

• Use overwhelming size & numbers when trying to scare off the kangaroos from the field. Don’t let someone try to do this alone. Help your fellow archers scare them off.

• If a big male stands up & starts growling or grunting; Back off! Get more help before proceeding.

• Don’t get between or close to a joey & its mother or a bull male. This can trigger them to charge & attack.
