Liezel has returned from the Hyundai Archery World Cup 2024 Stage 2 in Yecheon, Korea where she competed in as a part of the Australian National compound team. This was Liezel’s first World Cup competing in the Open Category. She had a fantastic time meeting many people and learnt so much from the experience. She is looking forward to doing it again. 🌏🏹

• More photos from the club’s 40th birthday are available. Thanks Sal!

Etiquette

If you’re still at the club near packing up time, please offer to help. It really is appreciated. There are a number of small, simple tasks that can be done to make life easier. Eg.:

• Flip up the “archery in progress” signs at the top of the stairs & entry gate. 😍❤❤

Taking down the Red “Shooting” Flag 🥰❤❤

Packing up the chairs & tables. 😻

Taking the rubbish bin bag home to your wheelie bin. 😍❤💓💝

Help close the container & shed doors. 💕

Open the gates surrounding the field to let the kangaroos back in. 🦘

I can say from experience, any one of those being done helps a lot & is very appreciated.

Tip of the Week

🎯 Target Butt Rules & Etiquette 🎯

If you’re the last person shooting on a target, please stow it when finished. Even if you didn’t take it out in the first place.

Always ask before joining an archer who is already using a target. Most will say Yes.

Targets should always be pegged down before use.

Please arrange the targets so that the shortest shooting distance is on the left of the field, and the furthest on the right.

Unless you have express permission, only remove your own arrows.

If you are having trouble extracting an arrow or moving a target, feel free to ask for help.

Safety Tip

✋ Talk to the hand, not to the DOS! 🙊

Being honest, the job of the DOS isn’t an exciting one. Looking out all the time for kangaroos, wayward archers, & the occasional high-draw on the shooting line isn’t as entertaining as Netflix. Often the intellectual highlight is remembering how many whistle beeps to make this time. We love it when someone comes over to talk to us or to ask a question; it helps break the monotony. Despite that, the safest thing is to NOT talk to the DOS at all while they are on duty, unless it is related to their current task. Exceptions are things like “Is it okay if I take a target out to XYZ distance in this lane?”.

Anytime you talk to a DOS, you’re distracting them from their important safety task. There really is no good time to have a yarn with them while on duty, however if you have to talk to them, immediately after they have given the three (3) beeps to signal “Verily thou art safe to sally forth & collect thyne pointy sticks!” is the best time.
