Records

Congrats to our new club record holders from our May Monthly medal comp.

Alex Hill - Open Male Recurve - Short Canberra - 758 -> 786 👏😲 & Monthly Medal🥇

Kate Hall - Open & 50+ Female Barebow - Darwin -> 457 👏 (6 club records from 6 shoots!)

David Conran - Open & 50+ Male Longbow - Melbourne - 558 & 493 -> 598 👏😲🤯

Etiquette

If you’ve hired or used a club bow, please ensure you unstring the bow before putting it in the shed. Recurve limbs, under tension, in an unventilated shed equals a Sad Panda.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Forecast for Winter: The Archery Gods™ will favour archers who are up early as they rejoice at the pain of bare feet on bathroom floors. Your arrow shafts will be ever so slightly shorter due to the decreased temperature. Compound archers will eventually notice this effect. Longbow archers already knew this as it is Excuse #37. Our local kangaroos will be 1.84% slower.

Tip of the Week

Winter is Coming!

Now that the cooler months are here, we want to stay warm. That often means wearing long sleeves, gloves, vests, and jackets when on the shooting line. These items, while essential to keep us comfortable, can often alter our shooting form, or worse interfere with the bow string. Remember:

Wear an arm guard over your long sleeves.
  Perhaps even have an elastic band(s) to constrain loose sleeve fabric that may contact the string.

Wear a chest guard, especially over any loose fabric vest, jacket, or jumper.
  Our nipples also tend to be more erect & proud when we’re cold. You won’t be the first or the last archer to discover this with the help of their bow string during winter. I.e Ouch! (Note: Men have nipples too! Ask me how I know.)

Check your warm gear doesn’t have zipper tabs, pockets, & buttons that might catch the string.

If you wear a glove on your bow hand, your draw length will increase by its layer thickness.

  Adjust your clicker and/or anchor point accordingly.

Your pre-shooting warm-ups & stretches are now even more important.

Safety Tip

🚗🚘  🌳 Avoiding a local branch meeting 🌳  🚘🚗

As the months get cooler in Brisbane, often the wind picks up too. These winds frequently cause large limbs from the trees to weaken & come down. You’d be wise not to park directly next to or under the large gum trees in the club’s parking area.
