Club New

New DOS: Bruno Greimel, has completed his DOS training on Monday, and is now a qualified DOS! That’s right. Like other DOSes; dally on your way back & he will look sternly at you! 📯

New arm guards coming! We’ve ordered 34 brand new arm guards for use with the Come & Try classes and for general hire. Our old & well worn (out) ones will be given away, or a Viking funeral .. TBD. 💪⛨

• We all remember our first time All Gold. New member Ryan Richards certainly does! On ya!👏

• A management committee meeting was held last Monday as usual. Past minutes etc are here.✍

• We are looking at adding a second coach to the Saturday Morning Coaching lane who’s primary responsibility will be to show brand-new members around the club & how to get themselves set up. New members will be advised to have their first session with this coach as an immediate follow on from our standard Come & Try class. 🎓🏹

• Due to changing weekend work commitments, Chris Kerslake won’t be able to assist with club competitions as much.😒 If you’re willing to learn, or are interested in helping out in this area, please contact him or the committee. Volunteers are always welcome! ✍🕑

• 👏Congrats👏 to our members who represented us at the SQAS Field Championships at the brand new course at the Sunshine Coast:

🥇Sanne Martini, 🥇Nate Angwin, 🥇Ryan Clarke, 🥇Izach Parr,

🥉Ellen Martini, 🥇Bronwyn Healing, &🥉Darren Johnston

• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏

(Open) Jane Clarke & Sebastien Carvolth

Etiquette

You’re allowed to mark your feet/standing position on the shooting line so you have a repeatable stance for each end. You can do this legally with items that don’t protrude from the ground more than 2cm. E.g. Golf tees, pegs, chalk, even scuff marks. You are not allowed to deliberately interfere with another archer’s marks. It’s considered unsporting. While you’re allowed to alter the ground you’re standing on (e.g. to make it level, etc), don’t be that archer who deliberately alters the ground by digging foot holes to stand in & then doesn’t restore it afterwards. Just like in Golf, please replace your divots!

“Alternative” Archery Facts

How different archers view scoring an end:

Compound: “I calculate the score by subtracting the arrows that didn’t get 10.”

Recurve: “If only I could keep all my arrows in the Gold.”

Barebow: “OMG! I got a Gold! But why is there always one in the Black?”

Longbow: “Yay! All my arrows hit the target butt!”

Horsebow: “I’ve failed you Genghis. If only I had a horse!” 🐎

Tip of the Week.

At full draw we want the archer’s body to be upright. That is, we do not want the archer to be leaning back, away from the target, as that will result in the bow arm shoulder being too high. If necessary to get this right, start with more of your weight on the foot towards the target and lean a little towards the target prior to drawing the arrow.

Safety Tip

🎯           ↙👨 What a let down! 👩↘           🎯

Did you know you don’t have to shoot every time you nock an arrow, raise & pull back your bow? Occasionally as archers, we need to not shoot an arrow. I know, it seems impossible to do at times. The safest way to not release an arrow whilst at full draw, is to lower your bow arm, so the arrow is pointing at the ground. Then gradually let the string go forward, while still maintaining the drawing hand position on the string. Doing it this way means the arrow can’t go anywhere unexpected if your hand slips during the let down process. Practise this a few times so you feel comfortable.

Remember, you may have to emergency stop due to a field safety issue, pointing the bow down is the quickest & safest way to ensure an accidental release doesn’t cause a serious issue.
