Club News
• 🌳🌩🗲🧊🌪⛅⛈⛔🔦🌳🪓🌞🌳🪓🔌💡 Well! That was an interesting 7 days. Let's not repeat that if we can. For those that missed it; I don’t think a single tree survived unscathed from the recent storm(s). Due to lots of work by many people (Thanks all!), we got the club up & running just in time for Saturday.
• 🚧🌳Beware🌳🚧 There are still some large broken tree branches suspended in some trees. Please look up before walking under or parking near those trees. 🪓
• We need some backup people to open & close the club during the week, see the TBA’s below. Bernd will be away ✈, and David may be unavailable ⚖, so alternates would be great! 🙏🙏
• Special congratulations to our four (4!) new(ish) Level 2 Coaches! In order of prettiness😜 they are: David Conran, Emma Crouch, Hayden Ng & Michael Schilling 👏👏🎓🎓🎓🎓👏👏🎉
• 💧Water💧- Still no drinkable water at the club house, but cold water is back down at the field!
• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏

Etiquette
Please don’t hold up the entire shooting line looking for a lost arrow. It’s easy to get absorbed in the search and lose track of time. You should only search for a maximum of a couple of minutes each end. In short, you can keep searching until the last archer has finished scoring, and has pulled their arrows from the target. That’s when you need to stop searching, and try again at the next end.
“Alternative” Archery Facts
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
Archery: Trying to do the same thing over and over expecting a consistent result.
Tip of the Week.
🔏 To Judge or Not to Judge. 🔏
When paper scoring an archery round, not every mistake on the sheet needs to be corrected by a judge. The individual arrow scores typically do require a judge, but the totals do not.
If you make a mistake with an arrow score, you have several options:
• While arrow scores are written down in highest to lowest order, that is only preferred, not required. You might be lucky and get around your mistake if there is a matching unscored arrow for that archer. eg. The archer actually scored 10, 9, 7, 5, 5, 4. If you wrote down: “10, 9, 5, 5, 4” then discovered the “7”, writing down “10, 9, 5, 5, 4, 7” is still valid. Creative re-ordering might get you out of some mistakes when an arrow score was incorrectly recorded.
• If that doesn’t help, don’t scribble out or draw over the number. I know, it’s tempting. Call over a judge and tell them what has happened. They will correct in red pen the archer’s sheet for that end. In the meantime, don’t touch or pull any arrows from the target. A judge will have to see all the arrows in the target for themselves. Showing them what you’ve recorded in iscored.today is not acceptable to them, nor is a photograph.
• If you’re at an event or situation where no judge is present or available, any correction to an arrow score needs to be initialled by every archer who shot on the target. You do this after every arrow for that archer’s end has been scored & recorded.
When you do correct a non-arrow score, again, don’t scribble it out. The error & correction needs to be as clear & readable as possible. Ie. Strike-through the score with a single line, and write the correct number next to it. E.g. 6 7, 42 52.
Remember: Untouched arrows in the target face are the absolute truth. The paper sheet’s arrow scores can only be modified when they can still be verified to the untouched arrows in the target. Once arrows have been removed from the target, those arrows scores on the paper sheet become immutable & are the only record of truth. You can’t retroactively change them. You can however, retroactively change the totals or tallys if an arithmetic error in the counting has been found later.
Safety Tip
🌩 Thunderbolts and lightning, very, very frightening me 🌩
Archers & archery usually continues despite bad weather. However, we are not the postal service. We have limits. One of them is lightning. It is almost a universal rule, that at the first sign of thunder (and therefore lightning) in the area then all outdoor archery is to cease. It may resume once it has been deemed to have passed by the DOS. If it happens towards the end of the shooting session, you might as well pack up and go home. It’s over.
If you don’t understand why, check out this recent fatal incident, & closer to home too. ☹️
