Club News

• For those that missed being at the club on Saturday. Wow. What a busy day. A massive turn out for our first Morning OzBow session. Due to how well it went, you will see we are making it a regular; adding a 720 round for those that want to progress too. The BBQ was a huge hit; There will be more! Thanks to all involved, especially Kristy, Bernd, Bart, etc etc. We raised a figurative & literal tasty ~$100 for our youth going to the Trans-Tasman comp in Kiwistan. šŸŒšŸŽÆšŸ›«

• As announced in the last newsletter, one of the other fundraisers is a Ā Night Time shoot Ā (Fri 20th). Tickets are $10 (Donations welcome). All the money from this event goes to Ellen & Liezel who are off to Canada to represent AUS at the World Archery Youth Championships! šŸ¹šŸšŸ’ø

• We will be doing another community outreach Archery stall (similar to the Darra one) at the Festival of Nations for Corinda State School. We will need heaps of volunteers to do stints manning the Archery Inflatable Range. aka The Bouncy-Castle-of-Archery-Doomy-Doom-Doom.šŸ§’

• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club member: (U14) Griffin Theron šŸ‘

Etiquette

If no-one shows up within one (1) hour of opening time, then the person who’s meant to open up the club can close up and go home. I.e. Archery is done for the day.

For example: It’s raining heavily & the club opens for ā€œGeneral Archeryā€ at 10am, if no-one arrives by 11am, the person opening the club up for archery may optionally close.

ā€œAlternativeā€ Archery Facts

As the archery zodiac leaves the Element of Easton and transitions to the House of Hoyt, the Archery Godsā„¢ will be guiding carbon arrows towards stray bits of metal on the target butts whenever most impractical; Aluminium arrows will be exempt, unless of course your shooting stance has an even number of millimetres between your feet.; If you are shooting at a competition, there will be an error on your scoresheet: If you’re lucky, you’ll find it. If you are very lucky, no one will. Due to unusual solar activity, left handed archers will have a slight advantage but only on days with two vowels.Ā

Tip of the Week.

šŸ”€ The plot twists unravel… šŸ”€

Check that your brace height is still the same as when you recorded it last. (You have documented it, right?)Ā  Recurve & Longbow strings have a nasty habit of changing their number of twists when you string & unstring your bow. Just a few twists can significantly change your bow’s characteristics and change where your arrows land.

Safety Tip

āœ‚ Cutting Arrows āœ‚

To cut arrows to the correct length you can’t use normal tools. Using the wrong tools can damage your arrows. The best & safest way to cut them accurately is to use a thin abrasive spinning disk, such as an arrow saw. The club has one available to members. There is a proper technique for using it. If you want to learn to use it, please ask for instruction. When using the saw, please ensure you are wearing safety glasses & a mask at the very least. The saw produces very fine & dangerous dust which is easily breathed in or ingested. Remember to wipe down any surfaces after cutting, and wash your hands if you didn’t wear disposable gloves. Carbon fibre dust & debris is especially nasty stuff.
