Etiquette

If you’ve signed up for a competition event (in Archers Diary or not), if you can’t make it, please let someone know as soon as you possibly can. An absent yet expected archer causes a lot of chaos for competition organisers, the people setting up the field, and for other archers. Unfortunately, archers can’t just remove themselves or their registrations, or make changes to it. You have to contact the organisers for that to happen.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

Archery: Trying to do the same thing over and over expecting a consistent result.

Tip of the Week.

🎯 Correct Target & Lane 😮

It’s very easy to accidentally shoot at the wrong target, or from the wrong lane; Especially when the grass is long, or the grass clippings are at a slight angle. Every archer will make this mistake in their career. From Head Coach Rob to Lethal Leizel, all have done it. Competitions make this unfortunate event more likely as often all the targets near yours are at the same distance. So, for each & every end and arrow, take a moment to check you’re standing in the correct lane, position, & that you’re aiming at the correct target face. It may not be one of “The 10 steps” but get it wrong, and that perfect shot of yours into someone else's ‘X’ will net you a big fat ‘M’ instead.

Safety Tip

📯 DOS Whistles 📯

  • No DOS means No Whistle means No Shooting!

  • Two blasts: Pick up your bow etc. Approach the shooting line & select your arrow.

  • One blast: You may load your bow and are allowed to start shooting.

  • Three blasts: The end is over. Stop shooting. Return to the waiting line then go forth to score & retrieve arrows unless otherwise instructed.

  • Five or more blasts: Emergency stop! Do not go forward etc. Arrows must be removed from the bow, and bows lowered. You may remain on the shooting line unless otherwise advised. Shooting (and the timing) will resume after a single blast.

  • In short, if you hear any blasts after starting, immediately let down. Do not release any arrows. Remove any arrows from your bow to your quiver. Any blasts during shooting effectively means Stop!

  • If in doubt, Stop!
