Photos from the recent Night Shoot. Funds were raised. Hot Chocolate & Fun was had. 📸

Be careful when near the Titan Shed (compound targets), the ground was like quicksand even before the weekend’s rain. 🚗 Ask me how I know.😥

• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club member: (Open) Cameron Caesar 👏

Etiquette

Too many target butts out & you want to shoot at a distance someone else has a target at? Ask before you join them. Our lanes can easily take 3 archers per target, 4 if you get real cosy. Most archers don’t mind sharing. However, be polite & respectful; don’t ask or join while they are shooting an end. Who knows, you just might make a new friend too!

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Ever lost an arrow in our archery field and been unable to find it? A super advanced but slow technique is to convince Rob to shoot in the same lane. If he also loses an arrow in the lane, he is likely to find yours (& about 4 others based on past experience) as he never gives up.

Tip of the Week.

  • Shooting regularly is key to maintaining & improving your archery skills. Make shooting on the weekend a regular habit.

  • One of the fastest ways to improve your archery is to shoot more frequently. Consider attending the Sunday shoots.

  • Whilst shooting lots of arrows in a session can help build muscles & stamina etc., doing “quality” arrows (where you focus 100% etc) is often better than many more “poor” arrows (where you don’t really focus too much).

Safety Tip

➶➳ Check your arrows ➷⇏

Never shoot a damaged arrow! Separate it until it has been suitably repaired. It can be incredibly dangerous to you & your fellow archers.

• Before every archery session, check your arrows (and other equipment) for any damage.

• When walking back from collecting your arrows is the ideal time to quickly check your arrows. Has a nock been struck or come loose?; Has a point come partially out or been left in the target? Has a fletch torn or come off? It’s best to discover this before the start of the next end.

• If an arrow has struck something other than the soft part of the target butt, give the arrow a thorough inspection. When this happens it is quite common for nocks to crack or come off; points to partially or fully come out; Or worst of all, the arrow to be bent, cracked, or split. In addition to visual & tactile inspection, give any carbon shaft a good flex, then rotate the shaft 90°, and flex again! This can help expose mid-shaft damage.

If you’re unsure what to look for, ask an experienced archer, instructor, or coach.

MMMMMM Barry update:

Friday night saw Lionel make a splash entrance into this year’s running, with 9 from 3 arrows overtaking David in one go. Not to be out done, 12+ hours later, two of our compound archers (Chris & Sanne) collectively launched their campaigns for the top of the table. Um, Congratulations Sanne?! 😇
