Club News

Volunteer of the Week: Darren Johnson, for building new wooden surrounds and mounting system for the compound target butts. Check them out, they are great. Speaking of our Compound Target butts, we will be removing the corners of all the compound (round) butts which should hopefully make the target faces sit on them more tight & smoothly. Good on ya, Darren! 💓💗🎯

• A HUGE round of congratulations are in order for the eight (8) new Level 1 (L1) coaches who completed their training on Saturday. Our volunteer coaches are the backbone of our club, helping the club make revenue via our Come & Try classes, sharing the workload, helping entice people into archery; hopefully becoming members of the club too. So, when you see them around, give them a well earned pat on the back and some praise. They are: 👏🎓🎓🎓🎓🎓🎓🎓🎓👏

Mark Bradley, Kristy Chamberlain, Don Dawson, (El Presidente) Brian Dymock,

Alicia Ginn, Darren Johnston, Ellen Martini, & Liezel Roux

• This Saturday sees the return (& start) of this year’s Monthly Medal/Club Champion competitions. Entry into the comps is free, and everyone has a chance to earn bling, records, & prizes. Any 72 arrow round is fine. Reminder for newcomers, it is a handicap competition, based on the archer who has most improved, not who is the best archer. In fact, it’s harder for experienced archers to win it, so give it a go! You’ve got nothing to lose. The ultimate prize at the end of the year, is a bespoke trophy, a title, and an Annual Ground Fee. Oh, plus fame and immortality too! 🎯🎯

New archers: If you’ve only been shooting a small amount of time, our Beginner’s Course. Held over two Saturdays, is coming up the week after next. It’s highly recommended if you are fairly new to archery, and want to learn a lot more skill quickly. Register now! 🎓

New DOS: Alicia Ginn, has completed her DOS training on Sunday, and is now a fully qualified DOS (and an Instructor too)! That’s right. Like other DOSes, she can mostly count to three! 📯

• Well done to Rob Connell, Lindsay Roux, & Jarryd Greitschus (with support by Queen Kate from Kateshire) who held another successful SQAS Youth Development Day at our club on Sunday. So many kids doing archery was a great sight to see! 🏹🏹👶👼👧👦🎯🎯

• Please welcome our newest, fully approved club members: 👏👏

(Open) Daniel Nairn & (50+) Derek Long

Etiquette

If no-one shows up within one (1) hour of opening time, then the person who’s meant to open up the club can close up and go home. I.e. Archery is done for the day.

For example: It’s raining heavily & the club opens for “General Archery” at 10am, if no-one arrives by 11am, the person opening the club up for archery may optionally close.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

If you shoot an asiatic or horse bow in a competition, under “the rules” it is considered a recurve bow, but if you should shoot it in the asiatic-style i.e. with a thumb ring instead of a finger-tab or glove, it is considered a compound bow. Personally, I think if you’re shooting from a horse in a competition, you should be able to consider it whatever bow type you like.

Tip of the Week.

🏷👀 Read label for details 🏷👀

We’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth repeating. Having at least your initials on your arrow shafts is required for every competition. Coloured marker pens work, but will fade or wear off over time. A lot of serious archers will get custom arrow wraps made up with their name on them. That can get costly, and it’s not easy to retrofit on to pre-made or existing arrows. An alternative is to get pre-printed sticky labels (200 for <$3) added to your arrows. They look very professional, legible, & you will have plenty left over for future arrows. Plus you can put them on other things too. They handle the weather conditions very well, so when your lost arrow is found, there is a good chance it can still be identified.

Bonus Tip: If you can fit it on, add a mobile phone number so someone can easily let you know when it’s found.

Safety Tip

✏✒🛂 All one form, or None for All 😭🚫💸

Signing into the club when you first arrive is a requirement. It’s not just something you should do later. It is important that you, and your fellow archers do this. It affects everyone at the club. If you forget to sign in, you might think, “sure, I won’t be covered by Archery Australia’s insurance; I’m a good archer, I’m not going to hurt myself or someone else”. That may be true, but if any archer at the club gets injured and even a single archer has not signed in, the insurance company can refuse to cover us all. I.e. Your decision not to is not only selfish but can affect everyone else negatively & significantly.

Note for New Members: You must sign in even if you don’t have an Archery Australia card or number yet. No excuses. Just sign in with a number of ‘0’ (Zero) until you get it.
