Club New
• 💗Volunteer of the Week💗 Ross Larsen (again) for line-trimming a bunch-o lane marks during the week! On ya Rosco! Honorable mention also for executive tablecloth & doily services for club high-teas on Saturdays! 🫖🍵🧋🧁
• Help Wanted Our current Club Treasurer (Don) has developed a medical issue that is preventing him from completing his duties as Treasurer. He’s looking to step down. The club needs to have someone in the role of Treasurer, hence we are asking for volunteers. If you can help out, please let us know ASAP. 🙏🏦💴💶💷🏦📿
• Help Wanted #2 Due to work commitments, ChrisK needs to step back from organising the Saturday club-level comps. Anyone willing to lend a hand to take this on?
• Chocoholic’s Day is almost over, but not soon enough for some bunnies. Everyone had fun, from the little (& not so little) ones in the Egg hunt, all the way up to the Holy Clout of Antioch.
This year saw the first male to ever claim the Bunny Bane title. 👏🐇🥚🪺
PS. The Beast of Caerbannog still remains unvanquished; Beware its big, sharp, pointy teeth! 🐇
• This week sees a large contingent of our archers (& families) heading to Launceston, Tasmania to compete in the National Youth Archery Championships. This year we are lucky to have both Queensland Captains come from our club; Ben White👏 & Ellen Martini👏. Joining them are:
Izach Parr, Liezel Roux, Nate Angwin, Ruth Chamberlain, Ryan Clarke, & Sanne Martini
🤞🏅We all wish you well. Bring back some bling! 🏅🤞
Etiquette
The water cooler doesn’t magically fill itself. If you notice it getting low-ish, please top it up using the big bottle of water next to it. On a very hot day, we can easily empty it twice.
If you’re getting a cold drink of water from it, please pay it forward by filling it up so the next few people can too!
“Alternative” Archery Facts
“You only ever do one full day of clout archery without an umbrella or a chair.”
Tip of the Week
🦘 That’s not a chocolate egg! 💩
All archers (and their kids) are to be aware that at no time will there be unwrapped chocolate eggs on the ground, car park, field, or stairs of the club during our egg hunts. Though they are plentiful, those decoy unwrapped chocolate “eggs” are to be avoided at all cost. Do not eat! Ewwwww! You have been warned!
Safety Tip
🧨💪🤯 Beware of Exploding Limbs 💣💪💥
During a club competition we had a case of a recurve limb spontaneously & spectacularly delaminating on the shooting line. Several ends had already been successfully shot. The limbs were still under warranty, a year old, never dry fired, used regularly, & looked after well. Not only did the archer in question get hit in the mouth as the limb let go; one of the limbs, the string, & the arrow all left the riser and travelled a couple of metres forward. This was before reaching full draw too. We should learn from & be reminded by this:
1) NEVER pull back on a bow when there is someone in front of it. Even if there is no arrow loaded. When drawing, ALWAYS treat it as a loaded weapon. Just like a blank round in a gun, it can still potentially cause serious injury.
2) Periodically check your bow limbs for cracks & damage, not just after a bad sound or dry fire etc. Perhaps do it monthly &/or when you wax your string.
3) Even modern gear & materials are not immune.
4) This can potentially happen at any time. There was no prior odd sound, no warning, no different feel to the bow, or change in arrow flight etc. Just BANG!
