Club News

• Another call for volunteers to help with our 40th birthday party. Contact Brian if you can help. 🎂

• For those that missed it, we had the Australian Archery Olympic Shadow Squad training at our club last Saturday. It was a sight to see. Some highlights: Alex Hill got to DOS for Olympians, Alex Raymond had his lost arrow found and returned to him by squad member Kane Wilson, & Ellen Martini’s head almost falling off because her smile was so wide! We wish them well in Shanghai!🏹

• The latest plans for the concreting the shooting line area are on display at the club and online. We are completely open for comments, suggestions, & feedback. We’d like as much input from members as possible. 👷🚧

• Please create your new AA membership account with Assemble. Existing members will need to do this as AA stopped making physical membership cards last year. Electronic cards are the new norm. Get it via Dashboard -> View -> Registration History -> Download Membership Card icon. 🪪

Etiquette

On days when we have an archery class, for example, a Come & Try, all hire gear is reserved for the class participants first. Typically the classes start at 10am on a Saturday morning, but we open the field for general archery before that. If you need to hire club gear to shoot, please consider arriving some time after the class has started so that there is enough gear to run the course. In short, class participants always have first preference over the equipment, targets, & field to ensure that the class runs smoothly.

“Alternative” Archery Facts

Archery Dad Joke: [Q] What is brown & sticky?   [A] A longbow.

Tip of the Week

🌈 Bow colours are important 🧠

Sure, if you had a robot shoot your bow, it wouldn’t make any difference what colour it was (except, everyone knows red goes faster!) However, you’re not a robot. The psychological benefit of having a bow colour you like shouldn’t be dismissed. A happy & positive archer is better. The more we can do to achieve that, the better. Some manufacturers know this and make some very pretty (& good) bows. (I see you W&W Wiawis ATF-X!) However our own CAC youth archers have pointed out there is a much cheaper, quicker, & easier alternative to ordering & waiting for your favourite colours. The answer: Paint Pens. Check out some of their bows for the results. They are amazing!

Safety Tip

🥊🦘 Kangaroos are wild! 🦘🥊

It’s Joey/Mating/Fighting season again at the club grounds. We need to be extra careful when approaching our fellow furry club members. We have had near misses in the past where a big male attempted to attack an adult archer when he wasn’t looking. Please remember, they are wild creatures. They can inflict serious injuries. Give them the distance, caution, & respect they deserve.

Don’t allow children or short people to approach the kangaroos alone.

Use overwhelming size & numbers when trying to scare off the kangaroos from the field. Don’t let someone try to do this alone. Help your fellow archers scare them off.

If a big male stands up & starts growling or grunting; Back off! Get more help before proceeding.

Don’t get between or close to a joey & its mother or a bull male. This can trigger them to charge & attack.
