“Alternative” Archery Facts
The Archery Gods™ giveth & they taketh away. They hear & see all, plus they have a wicked sense of humour. Don’t believe it? David joked that you need to be descended from Robin Hood to use a longbow, & the very next arrow… Bam! One arrow for the price of Two!
Tip of the Week.
🎼🪢 Come on let's twist again (exactly) like we did last summer 🪢🎵
Target archery is largely about consistency. One of the things to keep consistent is the number of twists in our bow strings. Compound archers can tune out now for this tip. Most of us know, adding or removing a twist in our bowstring affects our brace height, but each time we remove the string from the bow we risk untwisting, thus not being the same for our next session. You can use a number of different devices to clamp the end loops together (e.g. a Paper clip, Bull clip, Peg, Carabiner, Safety pin, etc) or there is a simple trick that doesn't require anything extra. So quick & easy, you won’t use anything else after doing it. It’s so simple, it’s very hard to explain in text, but here goes:
• “Put one loop through the other, then pull the first loop through the second one.”; or
• “Loop an end through the other end loop itself so it looks like a reef knot.”; or
• “You take the small loop, put it through the large loop, then pull the large loop through the small one.”; or
• “Put one loop through the other so that the outer one is half way down the inner one, then grab the outer one and pull it through the inner one, it locks the two together.”
See! Clear as mud, right?! Watch the video instead, then you’ll get it:
How To Keep Bowstring From Untwisting
Safety Tip
🏃💨 No running 🏃💨
As a child, you were told & learnt to never run with scissors; Arrows are just as bad. So don’t. Unlike scissors, arrows also like to embed themselves in targets at face height, and love pointing out of the ground at optimal angles for injury. That’s all before we get to tripping hazards etc. The sport of Target Archery is not a race, there is no need to run, jog, or even power walk. The DOS will always wait for you to get behind the line safely.
To quote a very experienced SQAS archer: “Take your time; Be quick about it!”.
